elog System - Durable Log Home Siding

elog will endure under nature's toughest elements

The pictures to the right are evidence that the elog can withstand the elements of nature.  These simple yet effective tests show the durability of the elog even in severe wet and freezing environments.

The first picture is taken after the elog has been soaking in water for almost a full year.  The elog is soaked for a month or so and then taken out and dried, and then cycled back and forth 3-4 times over the 12 month period of time.  The moisture cure urethane adhesive creates a water proof barrier as it cures.  Technically speaking, during the curing process, the adhesive and the substrates chemically bond together forming an extremely durable laminated system.  On other soaked elog sections, we pried the thick wood veneer from the hardboard using a screwdriver blade and to our amazement the hardboard was actually dry because the adhesive bond prevented the water from soaking through. All this to say, the elog is durable...

You can see the importance of having a good stain coating as this elog was bare wood.  It has turned black and is slimy from the water soaking.

Yet the adhesion is still as strong as it was when it started...proving how durable the elog is.

The second and third pictures are of the same elog being soaked in the bucket and then set outside over a few days when the temperatures were in the single digit and teens.  Again we cycled the elog being soaked, frozen and thawed 3 times.  After the freeze/thaw cycles we were expecting to see some form of delamination and to our complete satisfaction we have seen absolutely no delamination and no weakening of the adhesion.

After a series of tests like this we are extremely confident in the strength and durability of the adhesion strength of the moisture cure urethane glue we are using.

This is an extreme test as under normal installation circumstances the e-log will not be soaked in water nor will it be frozen in a block of ice as it is shown on the third picture.  Certainly we expect the customer to treat the e-log better then this, but it is important to know how durable the e-log is...
